LS 280z, Ran when Parked

Post by Ben280Z »

Long time lurker, first time poster! Just like the title says, parked my LS swapped 280z track car last september, and it is just refusing to fire back up! It feels like something silly, but I've checked over everything I know to check and here we are. So, what changed since parked? New cam sensor (OEM GM), new IACV, and a new starter motor. What have I checked? I have good fuel pressure, running the test modes confirms that all 8 injectors and coils are injecting and coiling. When I pull the plugs out of the motor after trying to start the car, they are wet with fuel. Looking at the basic TunerStudio dash, I have greens on "Ready" "Cranking" "RPM Synced" and "Full RPM Sync". Rock solid 235 cranking RPM.

About the motor! It's an aluminum 5.3L with 550cc deatschwerks injectors, a BTR stage 3 cam, running straight E-85. Factory coils, AC Delco plugs.

I'm hoping that someone smarter than I can look at this and tell me where I am going wrong! (or that I posted this in the wrong spot).

Cheers everyone!
-Ben

Did you leave e85 in the fuel tank for 6 months? If so that is your issue. e85 has a shelf life of roughly 3-4 weeks before it starts breaking down. After 6 months it doesn't burn. Check all fuel system components for corrosion damage.

I pumped the tank out and put in "fresh" fuel, but this is always a good reminder. Might pull the injectors out and have them checked if nothing jumps out in my MSQ/MLGs.

Wet plugs are fouled, replace with new.

I've had a few cars over the last few years that have easily fouled plugs. It seems like plugs foul really easily anymore, with basically no hope of reviving them.

I've even had ne vehicle that started in the morning, but then wouldn't in the afternoon, replaced the plugs and it fired right up with no other changes.

Ok, update! One of the things I replaced in the off season was the cam sensor. When I unplugged the cam sensor, the car barked off. I spent some time adjusting the new IACV and we are getting somewhere.

I'm curious how unplugging the cam sensor suddenly enables the car to work? Stock 24x cam sensor, nothing crazy. It makes me think the cam sensor is somehow 180* out, is there a way to switch that in the trigger/ignition area that I am missing?

Thanks, glad to be getting somewhere!

I'm using the LS1 trigger mode, so I don't think that I can:

Ok that won't work for you. Does the flip polarity on high res tach / cam do anything

Hey! That did the trick :yeah!:

Now I can get back to the issue I was fighting with last year, where it refuses to idle below 2000 RPM. I think that is mostly due to my inability to tune the PWM Stepper motor. Should be basic so I'm banging my head against the wall on what to do! Attached the current MSQ since that might have some clues as to where I'm getting bamboozled.

Thank you again Grom_e30!
