Problem with 4.0.10 X86 on XPSP3 laptop.
Since I updated from 3.something with MLV to 4.0.10, TS 2.6.14 (not sure what was there before) and to ms3 version 1.3.4 from 1.2.3 I have been experiencing a problem opening log files from the newer updated MS (SD card converted by TS) or logs by TS on my 32 bit laptop. Logs created before the MS3/TS/MLV updates seem to open way more quickly. No issues with the 64 bit version on my 8.1 desktop.
I recall when installing either the latest TS or MLV one of them required I go update some Java thing or another on the laptop, which I did.
The laptop is a Toshiba R series convertible tablet with a Pentium M 2GHz and 2GB RAM.
I can start Megalogviewer and it starts normally. I then open a recent log file and it seems like it begins to load - the graph legends load, the graphs area shows but the content remains blank for upwards of 4 minutes. A couple times opening a log never did get me to the point where I could see the log content. If I am patient enough though it usually eventually loads up. I am currently not running anything else (other that the usual dozens of background apps that clog up windows) and it never took a noticeable amount of time to finish loading before.
The system gets regularly "cleaned" up with Glary Utilities.
Initially I just did the automatic update, but when that didnt install right, I downloaded and installed a new version. When that didnt work right as above I uninstalled MLV and installed a freshly downloaded copy.
I am at a loss as to what may be happening...

Re: Problem with 4.0.10 X86 on XPSP3 laptop.
This AM I uninstalled Java 8 (since it is not supported with XP and installed Java 7. Nothing changed. Then I uninstalled MLV 4, downloaded yet another .exe and installed it. Three out of four attempts to open recent log files worked within a few seconds. The one attempt that didnt display the file was given about 2 minutes before I shut down MLV and started it again.
Maybe the issue is related to Java and XP. I havent seen anything else that behaves poorly other than MLV but I dont use this laptop for a lot other than the car... TS/MLV and a USB endoscope.

Re: Problem with 4.0.10 X86 on XPSP3 laptop.
I just found a very similar problem after auto updating to 4.0.12 on my old XP laptop.
Whenever I open a datalog, the graphs area remains blank and the CPU runs flat out.
That continues until I minimise the window and expand it again, then (most times) the graphs populate with data. When it finishes loading, the CPU runs flat out again until I minimise and expand it for a second time when it finally settles down. After that it appears to work normally.

Re: Problem with 4.0.10 X86 on XPSP3 laptop.
The newer version of MLV has a 1.8 JRE bundled with it. It will use that over any JRE installed, so changing JRE's alone won't make a difference.
I have seen 2 cases where there was a problem with the 1.8 JRE and an XP driver.
To use the installed runtime instead of the bundled one, go to the MegaLogViewer install dir and start MLV by double clicking MegaLogViewer.jar
To make all the normal icons not use the bundled JRE delete or rename the folder runtime.
If the runtime folder is not found on startup, the MLV will start with the JRE installed on the computer.

If the JRE change doesn't help, post / send your MegaLogViewerAppDebug.txt file. I wouldn't expect a driver issue to effect load time, that sounds more like there may be an Exception of sometime happening during load.

Re: Problem with 4.0.10 X86 on XPSP3 laptop.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I tried renaming the runtime folder, but it didn't change the result.
I can see in Process Explorer that renaming changes the version of javaw.exe in use (from 8.0.25.18 in the bundled version to the installed version 7.0.710.14) but I still see the same effect when opening a saved datalog.
Sorry but I don't seem to have any MegaLogViewerAppDebug.txt file. I can find a TunerStudioAppDebug.txt file but I can't find any equivalent for MLV.

The MegaLogViewerAppDebug.txt is a bit more hidden.
Look in the dir:
[YourUserHomeDir]\.efiAnalytics\
On XP Typically your UserHomeDir will be:
c:\Documents and Settings\[YourUserName]

Re: Problem with 4.0.10 X86 on XPSP3 laptop.
OK, I looked in that folder and there's no file called MegaLogViewerAppDebug.txt but there is one called MegaLogViewerMSLogFile.txt which looks like it might have useful information in it, so I've attached that.
For info, the second to last record on that file shows me opening a datalog at about 18:27, waiting for a minute or two while nothing appeared to happen then minimising and reopening the window to make the data appear. The last file shows me opening a datalog as 18:33, waiting till 18:34 with nothing appearing to happen and then closing MLV. I hope that's useful.

Re: Problem with 4.0.10 X86 on XPSP3 laptop.
That would be the file... No major info in there though.
However, I went and dug the old XP laptop out of cobwebs and tied it out here. It seems I am getting the same thing.
It starts loading, then just hangs with the CPU pegged for 20 seconds to 5 minutes, finally it starts loading like normal.
Same as you on all the current OS computers it seems fine and the JRE version doesn't seem to be the trouble.
I went back through the various versions and this seems to have started with 4.0.08. Version 4.0.07 seems to work ok.
I'll track down what the cause is, in the mean time install 4.0.07 from here:

I am away and just had a chance to catch up with my forums. I also have that laptop with me. Loaded the 4.0.07 ...works well on my system.

I believe I found the problem... It is contention with a Thread that seems to only present itself on XP for some reason.
I will put out a 4.0.14 that fixes it.

Same thing is happening to me. Was working fine. Popped up with an update notification. Updated to 4.0.12 and getting the issue you can see in the screenshot. CPU being hammered by javaw.exe
Is there a download link to a previous version for the mean time?

I just spotted that and tried it out.LT401Vette wrote:Actually 4.0.14 is up now.. Do a Check for Updates..
The datalog now populates its graphs straight away
***Ignore this bit***> though I notice the processor is still maxed out by javaw.exe and stays like that <***
[edit to add] May have been a false alarm. Just tried it again after restarting the laptop and now it appears to be working fine.
Thanks once again.
