Data log with no data?

Post by chips60bug »

I have gotten this message a few times. It drives me crazy! Any reason why it happens? Sucks to lose a nice long drive worth of data. Nothing changed in my log activating sequence.

That log does not contain any data, like the message says....

Does this occur this just randomly?

Can you post a project archive from TunerStudio?

This happened to me a few times when using my very old laptop. Could get round it by stopping a log after 15 minutes or so and starting a new one. Sort of wondered if it had run out of memory.

Seems to happen pretty much every time i try to log to the laptop right now. Really frustrating. Here is a link to the project archive. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-FfFU ... sp=sharing
Thanks for any help that can be given!

I see you have a CAN Device in the project. Is the CAN Device going online also?

Can you:
- delete the TunerStudioAppDebug
- Start TS
- Turn on COM Debug under the Communications Menu
- Open your project and connect.
- Start a Data log

Wait a few seconds, and stop logging and close TS.
Don't let it go long at all, the TunerStudioAppDebug will grow fast.

The zip and post or send the TunerStudioAppDebug.txt

Here you go. Thanks for your help!
I have an I/O Extender in the system. It works fine.

Did you start a data log during that file?

It should output the file name when it opens the file before even writing the headers. I don't see any data log starting.

I opened TS, enabled the function under the communications menu, selected my project, powered the ecu, selected and saved a log, turned off the log a few seconds later, turned off the ecu, closed TS, then zipped up the file and submitted it. Log is enclosed here.
Did I do something wrong in that sequence?

Nope, sequence seems fine. I see nothing wrong in the AppDebug..

Actually looking at the new msl you posted, that does have data in it. Only 43 records, but that would be right for a short log.

Some do and some don't, I have a sync loss issue I'm trying to work through right now at 5600 rpm. TS never misses a beat, but the car will completely shut down at that rpm or thereabouts. Unfortunately, if I hit that spot, I lose the log every time. It also kicks on a cam fault indicator. It seems that if that indicator is active, it won't record any info either. The internal sd card does just fine though. These are just a few observations so far.

My setup is doing the same thing. Closing the project and re opening it is one way I found to fix it. I also have JBPerf IOx which sometimes has a communication error and sometimes the main controller does the same thing. I dont recall if it coincides with the data logging problem.
To many other problems to focus on more than a work around for the data logging one.

I'll attatch a msq and Appdebug this evening .. Your right it gets big .. looks like its still trying to connect while working offline?

Edited - Added Tunerstudioappdebug.zip
TunerStudioAppDebug.zip
Also when data logging will work it wont start automatically. Set to autoamtically start when "rpm>100"

I have made a few changes and (knock on wood) I am getting solid data logs every time. My cam sensor was reading 360 crank degrees out of phase, so I spun it 180 and turned off my noise filters and immediately got full rpm out of the car. I do still have one little blip of sync loss I'm trying to resolve, but I never get the cam fault indicator, and logs are great every time. Very odd, but I'm happy. Thanks for the help!
