Customizing gauge/indicator visuals

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

Looking pretty good :)
It looks pretty empty over on the right side there. Unless the "counter clockwise rotation" makes the charts go from left to right, i'll be wishing there is a way to move all of the selected gauges at once.
It doesn't, but no reason it can't pretty easily. I'll get that in there. To move all the gauges at once, select them all and use the keyboard arrows. :) Warning I have seen some strange behavior here with them all jumping back sometimes. I will be making it so you can drag them all with the mouse.

I think I have an idea for handling the aspect scaling better. I'll toy with that.

THANK YOU!!!this the best & easiest tuner progam.i played around with tune & tunix, they drove me crazy.i not very up with computer lingo &oprations,im more the mechanical type.if i could figure out how to post my dash i would,it was easy to create with the tools u supply.the only problems im having is i erased to many basicreadout guages, when i created a new one i couldnt get the font size to match using the font sizer(bigger evan @ min setting).also i bought a eonon visor lcd 1024*rbg*640(7x12.2)to use as a dash, but it is stretched & blurry.if you have any suggest(even dont use it &get a ?)i would be greatful.(7x12 is perfect fit in my dash )

Thanks.
The Fonts size is relative, because it is always relative to the size of the gauge 1st. So, depending on what style gauge it is you may need to resize the gauge along with the font size.

With a targeted somewhat od shape screen, you should be ok, just make sure as you are designing the dash your window is set to be roughly the same shape. It sounds like your pixel distance is still similar to a normal monitor, it is just a lot of pixels wide.
That sounds like a real nice size screen for a digital dash.
Is that the true native pixel size, or just a supported resolution? Becareful if it is just a supported resolution and not the native size. If not the native size, there will be some scaling going on by the screen it self that usually distorts things pretty badly.

For a dedicated carputer there is a good argument for using a lighter distro that is stripped to only what you need. This will give you better boot times and consume less resources.
But until you are ready to dive into that and are very comfortable with Linux, I would recommend Ubuntu.

It has to be the easiest Linux to jump into. Actually I think I have switched all my Linux boxes to some form of ubuntu.

I haven't found any significant advantage to one or the other for TunerStudio or MLV use. The one exception to this is that I still don't have a installation script to setup start icons and what not on Linux. You just basically untar it and run the .sh

I have always used a windows machine for tuning, but now these days where Megatune is no longer needed, I have been using the Ubuntu laptops more often than windows. Which is good because I have been picking up on things that don't look right on Linux.

What I am really missing is Vista and Mac. I need to get machines setup with these soon.

I had a similar issue. .3 wouldn't update to .4. I looked in the TS directory and saw a .jar.temp file. When I tried to rename the existing .jar, I got that error message. Took a reboot to free it up - then after a couple file renames I was running .4.

There was an issue with the 0.984 update that would give you an error message when it went to restart, the message you gave. But once you start from the normal menu it should have finished it's job. I caught this when I auto updated my own machine and put a fix in for it. You just must have beat me to it :)

Auto update is working the same as MLV has for a long time, but TS is larger so there it more chance of your download getting interrupted and I don't have proper protection to repair that. I will get that in soon.

62f100,
I looked at the logs, I see a windows vista machine that has checked for updates several times in a row, but it didn't appear to go. Is that probably you? You were on Vista, weren't you?
Are you running as an administrator?
Have you successfully updated in the past?
Does MLV update fine for you?

I ask, because I see that there have been many successful updates by many different computers, so it appears to be working fine. But, that doesn't mean there isn't some circumstance I'm not thinking of that breaks it :)
Like the error message that came up on this, what caused that was that there was a file getting updated that exists in MLV too, but the last update version of it was 2.50 and here I was trying to update it in 0.983. My server wasn't picking up 0.983 as the latest, and 2.50 was too new to include even though it was supposed to be for another app...
It is only recently that I have been using my auto update for more than 1 app.
So, I never know for sure when i may be missing a piece of the puzzle.

Don't be sorry, that is really helpful for me to know. Even if I can't come up with a work around, atleast i can document or warn people of the problem.

Until I put in gauges that use a full 3D api, most modern business style cards will be fine. I do have it on the road map to try some true 3D gauges, but it will be a while before I get there. :)

Bailed on the graphics for now, still fighting with trying to have things lined up, I kinda lost some when I copied over to the laptop to try it.. and when you switch from full-screen to windowed it looks really funky.

Dave,

This is great, I see the file link, but

Can you explain in simple terms (ie a highly challenged UK PC Idiot  ) just how I get this file into TS and loaded etc
I am using TS V0.983

wow, i didn't realize that it loads up as a text file if you click the link.. that's kinda neat.

well, right click, save-as, drop it wherever you're saving your config files. then load up TS and right click, hit "load dashboard" then click the box to let you explore to a file that isn't in the preloaded set.

don't freak if it looks all messed up, try double-click to go full-screen. if that doesn't help, then you're stuck re-sizing things. :p

Ah HA !

Ok thanks for that

I can report that on loading MT I tried the R click, saw load but clicking on it didn't do anything, but loaded a new Tune and via "Other" and browse on the dashboard in it came :yeah!:

But it has moved about a lot, full screen not any help, so will jiggle about and sort.

Why does it move ?

Just curious as the LED dash doesn't ?

But thanks for the reply 95% there - I think
