bluetooth, windows, and tuner studio

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

bluetooth, windows, and tuner studio

Post by mr_minnis »

Lets talk about Bluetooth usage with tuner studio. I'd like to see what combination of parts work good together (os version, ts version and Bluetooth ). Please list with quirks. It appears android just works and windows works OK.

For example:

Compaq NC8430
windows Vista 32 bit
TS 2.6.04
Broad-com 2045 Bluetooth.
Efi Analytics ms Bluetooth adapter
ms3x

If I Pair them up they will work until I restart the computer. Then I have to remove the paired device and the re-pair it before opening tuner studio. Once that is done it works. If i don't do that it will never connect. Once it works it is fine (tuner studio can be closed and ms3x can be shut off and it will reconnect) My android works fine every time.

I think its something with windows and the way it handles Bluetooth on Power up, but I don't know. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I've already downloaded the latest drive I could find.

I don't know what bluetooth adapter I have, it's something generic that was probably bought off Ali-Express and on-sold to me for $35. It has a serial plug so plugs in externally. The seller sets the baud rate and puts on a piece of shrink tube.
Toshiba Encore 8" tablet
Windows 8.1
Latest TS
After initial pairing, and setting up TS, it is trouble free.

Also worked same with Toshiba laptop and Win 7 (but not much testing).

Any chance you have a 3rd party bluetooth driver installed?
I have seen several times where something like bluesoleil was installed, so that was used instead of the standard windows BT and caused many problems.

I now have the software from http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.php installed. Its a broadcom dongle.

When I first used the dongle with tuner studio it did the same thing9with the windows drivers) . I updated the drivers in hopes to solve the problem. I'm thinking of purchasing another dongle. I was hoping to get a list of ones that work like they are supposed to.

I figured it out. It looks like the Bluetooth service was set to manually start. I changed it to auto and rebooted. Now the Bluetooth icon shows up in the systray when windows starts.
Connects just fine without un-pair and re-pair.
i am very excited about it. I was never blaming tuner studio or the adapter on my ms3x. I was blaming windows.
