TS Update issue

Post by Trump »

My TS has been working fine since putting on my new lap top with win 8.1 for about a month. When I opened it tonight it told me there was an update available. I selected to update now and then allowed through my security. Then all seemed to stop, ie nothing happened. After about 4-5 mins I tried again and it told me another version of TS was running. I selected to bring it to the foreground. The message disappeared and then nothing happened for some time. I rebooted the lap top and tried again, same result.

Then shut down and tried again, this time I selected to open a new version. Ts opened and offered an upgrade which I selected and went through the upgrade process. When it tried to install it stoped because there was another version still running. I checked the Task Manager and it did not show TS running.

I then went to the de-bug file and it told me there was a Java issue. I intended to attach the file but it was very large with details from when I first installed TS. I tried to delete some of the earlier data but it would not let me as the file was in use??????

Where from here???

Tried to add the debug file but it is too big and data is still being written to it. It is trying to find the ECU but can not find the comm port so keeps resetting.

This is a large update as it includes a JRE.
If it failed, I would recommend downloading the installer and installing it locally.

Sorry but I do not understand just what I should do. Do I just download direct from the TS site? Do I delete my current (old) TS and start again with the new one?

I have already updated my original lap top (Vista) and that went fine, took a while but was OK.

Tried again this morning on my new lap top (Win 8.1) but the same happened and now my de bug file is now a new file as I send this.

Stop Press......was able to load my de bug file.

Yes, Download it from the site and run the installer.
You shouldn't need to uninstall the old one, the installer will take care of that.

None of your projects or user settings will be effected.

Phil:

I'm having the same problem on my Win8.1 tablet. Not connected to MS which is RS232 to USB.

Many error messages:
1. Java Platform SE binary -- needs to close. Allow it to close.
2. Setup was unable to automatically close all application....
3. #2 keeps coming up even if choose Ignore.

Use Win8.1 Task Manager to end Java Task
Success!!

Then TS restarts & "Updating Application Files".
0% complete; won't stop trying; kill TS, restart TS.
No messages

Glad this computer is a backup for the primary. Did have issue with primary, after firmware update & TS update & verify that Current Tune matched Saved Tune, car cranked but would not start. Restarted TS & MS multiple times, finally car started. Let it idle until WUE indicator went off. Let it cool for 1 hr then started again. All appears okay.

I think this version needs some tweaking.

Looks like MLV is new, too?

Re: TS Update issue (Not Connected)

Post by DonMaximo »

Same boat here. I'm in good company, albeit disappointed at the moment. No worries.

I use a Microsoft laptop and always use the same USB port.

I used to connect, now the unit will "Not Connected" to MS. I had thought I was working offline, but I double-checked that button.

So, I'm in the dark now as well.

Will wait on a fix.

README.txt
1. If you are presently using a different code version on your MS2 you should
save you settings.
e.g. File->Save Tune As in TunerStudio

2. Ensure TunerStudio is closed and nothing is using your serial port.

3. Run the provided ms2loader for your operating system (e.g. double click on
it) and follow the instructions.
NOTE!! Other loaders will likely NOT WORK with MS2/Extra.
Be sure to choose your hardware correctly (ie. Megasquirt2, Microsquirt etc.)

Let me repeat that - YOU **MUST** USE the provided loader i.e.
ms2loader_win32.exe for Windows

Once it crashes, don't use web update. Download & install new version from here:
http://tunerstudio.com/index.php/downloads

You will first have to go into Windows Task Manager & end Java32 process because:

2015-01-13 2.6.12 Promoted to Stable

- Bundled JRE so no JRE installation is required and Java Updates will not break app.

(BTW --- JRE= Java Runtime Environment. Looks like install doesn't end process so install can progress.)

- Changed CAN Timeout reaction with new protocol to immediately retry instead of waiting.
- Use minimum blockingfactors from protocol on remote CAN devices if available.
- Always Retry on CAN_TIMEOUT protocol errors.
- Support Reference Table writing to secondary CAN Devices
- Updated PDF Viewer so images display in help files on1.7+ OpenJDK. (Primarily affects Linux)
- updated verbiage in Project Properties dialog when controller not found. ("Please click the 'Other' checkbox and browse")
- Fixed GPS data lag with high speed GPS devices.
- updated French Translations

Re: TS Update issue- Fixed my Connection issue

Post by DonMaximo »

I'm back online.

I followed Phils' directions to go to the his site, download, and install.
http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic ... 22&t=57195

Initially, this did not help, nor did it work following a reboot.

What did help was using the StudioTuner Communications--> Settings window.

I executed the Detect Port function from my Windows 8 laptop, Accepted, and was soon connected to the MotherShip (MS).

In hindsight, I wonder if I only needed to use the Communications pull down to re-establish the setting, rather than a fresh install.

Something to note is that this update with the bundled JRE not only takes quite a while to download, but when TS restarts and pops up the completing Update dialog, it will take quite a while to unzip the runtime. If this process gets interrupted, it will cause problems and you will likely need to go back to the downloaded installer.

Before running the installer kill all javaw.exe processes in Task manager or reboot and run the installer before attempting to run TS.

After auto updating TS and MLV, both programs became completely unresponsive and I would get a "Cannot find Java RE Runtime" warning when attempting to open either program.
The fix for my windows vista was to go to the Java website and use their utility to completely uninstall all older versions of Java.
Then after the older versions were uninstalled, I reinstalled Java8, and then TS and MLV worked just fine.

To those having issues...Uninstall all older versions of Java and upgrade to Java 8!

This utility is fantastic for identifying & updating. Contains no spyware.
https://patchmypc.net/download

When trying to update TS, error message says: "Another instance of Tuner Studio is running", etc.
What this means is Java is running as a Process. If you kill the Java processes while TS is attempting to update, the update will complete. If you kill Java processes before the update, TS will just load the process again.

BTW, TS & MLV have been updated again.
TS - 2.6.14
MLV - 4.0.04

Just updated TS on my Win 7 Starter small laptop (the one I use in the car for MS etc) and got the 'Java is corrupt' or whatever, and TS won't run. Did an update on this Win7 desktop with no problems.

I take it the best way is to run the installer again?

My best guess is that the update got interrupted in some way and the JRE did not make it in tact. This is a big update as it contains the full JRE.

Yes, that is most likely the easiest way, download the offline installer and run it.
