Interpolate good VE table to new load and RPM axis

Interpolate good VE table to new load and RPM axis

Post by Baxsie »

Just starting with MS.

I have searched for what I think this operation would be called, but I can't find it. Maybe I am searching for the wrong terms?

I have a tune that we have been working on, and it is now approaching being drivable. The problem is that somewhere early in the setup, the VE table was created for a boosted engine (load goes to 400), but the engine is normally aspirated.

So I am looking for a way to change the axis range of the VE table without losing the contents.

I can use VE table generator to make a new table that has the load and RPM axes I want, but then the content of the table is completely new and has no relation to the existing good VE table I have.

Is there some utility that can re-sample / interpolate the cells in the new table from the sells in the old table?

I guess I can export the .mspart XML files, and either manually re-sample them in a spreadsheet, or write a program to parse the XML and re-write the table, but that seems like a lot of work for what I would think is a problem that has happened before.

Suggestions? Directions?

So my problem looks to be about the same as this one:

But there is no solution offered there.

There is a re-bin button on the lower left of the tables that allows you to modify the load/rpm axes, but I think that's a registered version feature.

Oh, wow. Never would have noticed that little double arrow thing.

Super !

I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Changing the rpm and load won't import the cell values you will have to manually put them back in there and then try to smooth your map out. Megalog viewer has more map interpolation tools than tunerstudios

Sorry but that is completely inaccurate and well, wrong. TS and MLV use the exact same table widget, but MLV has some features turned off because it handles the table data quite differently. (without an ini)
TS has all the table utilities as MLV plus more such as the re-bin button.

The re-bin button does just what you are looking for. It keeps the new interpolated table as close as possible to what the table was before with any changes you make to the x&y axis'. This feature did not exist in TS as of that linked 2010 post.

My bad..... guess I need to look things over. That will definitely make things easier. Sorry Phil.

The re-binning ( or interpolation or changing axis ) worked great.

I made a PDF of what I did as a before and after record for me, in case anyone wants to see how it works, link below. It has the before and after for each table (VE, AFR, Ignition).
http://baxsie.com/images/forum/bug/whit ... Tables.pdf

I made up a spreadsheet to help calculate the RPM bins I wanted. Good resolution at idle and cruise, etc.

The trouble came when I wanted to move that 16 step table over to the 12 steps of AFR. I made a well.spreadsheet that shows the cells on top of each other, it is a hunt-and peck to line them up but better than nothing.

Open Office (native):
http://baxsie.com/images/forum/bug/whit ... 6_cell.ods
Excel:
http://baxsie.com/images/forum/bug/whit ... 6_cell.xls

The test run went well, translated tables just like the old ones.

Thanks for your help
