Solved - Generic sensors gone crazy

Solved - Generic sensors gone crazy

Post by arran »

I have just been for a drive and noticed that all three of my generic sensor inputs are going crazy. I'm running the Tuner Studio Beta 2.9.123, and MS3, MS3X Firmware 1.4.1

The sensors are Oil Temp, Oil Pressure and Fuel Pressure. They were working fine a few days ago. I recall that there was a new TS update sent out over the weekend. Could the update have broken the sensors readings? Anybody else seeing this?

Thanks

That doesn't sound like a TS thing...
Do the settings all still look fine for your sensors?

Yeah all the settings look fine. The two pressure sensors are powered 0 to 5v, the temp is a ntc variable resistor.

All the other sensors are fine, the air temp and TPS share the same power and signal ground and are fine.

I'll get the multimeter out and check the voltages

I'll also take a look at what the SD card is logging

That is from an SD Log?
Are they reading fine in a normal log?

If it is an SD log, and you have updated firmware, you may want to try going into the SD Field selection dialog, remove a field, then re add it.. See if that fixes the data.

The screen cap in the first post is from Mega Log Viewer.

More investigation tonight. All three sensors (oil temp, oil pressure and fuel pressure) oscillate all over the place. Both the SD card log and MLV display the same problem.

With the engine off all three work. I can pull, push, squeeze the loom where I joined in the sensors and no problem. Soon as I start the engine these three gauges go crazy. TPS, Air temp are fine. I have not updated firmware recently. It seems very strange that it is just the Generic Sensors are misbehaving.

I tried changing a few settings in the Generic Sensor window, and changed them back after a burn.

I checked the power and ground at the oil pressure sensor, all good, then pulled/pushed the loom again, could not make it play up.

Weird

I've worked it out, when I enable knock control debug mode, all three generic sensors break.

Disable knock control debug, gauges work
Enable knock control debug, gauges break

Yeah, knowing now what the impact is it makes sense. But it's vague, there needs to be mention of Generic Sensors, and that they will break. Just a suggestion

Out of interest, what was your thought process in enabling the Debug option? Why did you turn it on and what did you think it would do?
