Lost TS

Lost TS

Post by billr »

I'm running Win8.0 and TS MSv3.0.05 Yesterday I was "experimenting" with setting, trying to help another user who lost TS, and when I next tried to use TS it was dead.

If I open a file posted in this forum, I get the EFI Analytics "logo" screen, then a simple white screen with a gray title-bar at the top with the usual "TunerStudio MS v3.0.05 - Registered to: Bill Rxxxx"; in the center of that white screen is a "Tune File Project" dialog-box that is also blank. All I can do is click the red X to close that dialog, then the title-bar becomes blue and I can close out TS.

If I open a file from my desktop TS icon, it is similar to above, except that the dialog-box is "Audit Log" and closing that only gives a temporary blue title-bar, it quickly goes back to gray as the dialog-box closes and I have to power down the computer to get out of TS.

So, what do I do to recover? (Already reloaded TS)

James M. suggested (in another thread) that this is to "project settings" but I have done some searching and can't find those. It doesn't help that Win8 is far less friendly for me to use than XP was, so I need step-by-step help. I'm pretty savvy with machinery/electrics/electronics; not so much with computer GUIs...

What if you just open TS with the start icon instead of double clicking an msq?

Phil, it does this: (see my OP for the "above" behavior)

"If I open a file from my desktop TS icon, it is similar to above, except that the dialog-box is "Audit Log" and closing that only gives a temporary blue title-bar, it quickly goes back to gray as the dialog-box closes and I have to power down the computer to get out of TS."

I'll go look for "properties" in My Documents...

That sounds like you are opening a tune on your desktop, not the startup icon?

You can't get an Audit Log until you open a project, that is where I am confused.

If you want to completely reset your TunerStudio, while TS is not running delete the file:
[YourHomeDir]/.efiAnalytics/tsUser.properties

That won't effect your projects, but puts all TS settings back to the default.

However, I would like to know what triggered this so perhaps send a copy of that tsUser.properties file.
But, I am still not really clear what it is doing, maybe a screen shot?

You can't get an Audit Log until you open a project, that is where I am confused. I think TS is opening, it's just then getting hung in a loop.

If you want to completely reset your TunerStudio, while TS is not running delete the file: Hooray! That worked, I have TS back now.

Attached are a couple of screenshots and the properties file it was gagging on (note I had to change the "properties" extension to attach it)

It looks like it was the force Open GL active was set to on and your video drivers really didn't like it.

Are you having any rendering issues with it left off?

No, I have no other problems with it off. I had just ticked it to "on" in an attempt to figure out why another user was stuck in a CAN menu. I kind of guessed that might be a problem, after James mentioned "properties", and tried to edit it out of a props file; but it must have been the wrong file. Unfortunately, I seem to have redundant TS stuff installed in folders/directories that are not being used; but I have never had a problem (before!) so just left them alone. I'll try to prune them out to avoid future confusion.

As to the "desktop icon"... I realized later that there are several other places where I could start TS in Win8, but I never use any of those other type menus/listings because they are so confusing to me. The icon I use is simply the one that TS install provides.
