Tunerstudio Losing connection and unable to reconnect SOLVED
Shutting off taking the key out of the ignition and restarting made no difference.
Fiddling with the serial cable also didn't help.
What could cause this problem and how do I solve it?
Running
TS version: 3.0.28
MS2extra: 342a2
Laptop with built in serial port using serial cable to connect to MS2.
Tunerstudio debug Log is 2.9MB and is filled with mostly this message:
10/31/17 3:02:44 PM :Debug: Error trying to go online: No bytes found on unknown read size. timeout x2: 250
Oct 31, 2017 3:02:44 PM h.q run

I'll try and edit most of this out so I can get the file size down.

Re: Tunerstudio Losing connection and unable to reconnect
Were you able to reconnect again or is something permanently damaged?
Reboot?
Reboot?

Re: Tunerstudio Losing connection and unable to reconnect
Hi Phil,
I was only able to reconnect when starting with a blank project and loading the settings from the MS2.
I'll retry connecting with the project file loaded in TunerStudio.
Should I flash the MS2?

Re: Tunerstudio Losing connection and unable to reconnect
It just tried connecting to the MS2 with the project loaded in Tunerstudio.
This time it was able to connect.
However when I look at the TunerstudioDebuglog, I'm seeing the same error messages pop up.
Renamed the debug log so TS could make a new one.
Attached is the new debug log.
From your answer I take it this is not a Tunerstudio problem but an issue with the MS2?

Re: Tunerstudio Losing connection and unable to reconnect
Not necessarily, but probably not TS. My best guess at this point is that it is electrical. From your answer I take it this is not a Tunerstudio problem but an issue with the MS2?
- Bad serial cable letting in EM noise
- the MS grounding through the serial cable. (This can hang the serial chip in the laptop)

Re: Tunerstudio Losing connection and unable to reconnect
That last debug log was with the ignition on, engine not started.
So I guess that would rule EM out.
MS grounding through the serial cable. -Bad MS2 earth?
Don't know if it matters but with the last debug log was with the laptop was running off its own battery.
When the fault first appeared the laptop was hooked up to the car through a 12V DC converter.
Getting a new cable is going to take a while, but I have got a USB-RS232 converter I could try.

Re: Tunerstudio Losing connection and unable to reconnect
Couldn't get the USB-RS232 to work.
But when I delete the debug log and start TS without a connecting it to the MS2 it will still generate a fault. -log attached
Laptop serial port fried?
Can I test this someway?

Re: Tunerstudio Losing connection and unable to reconnect
Things got a little stranger.
I disabled the laptops serial port.
Debug Log shows com 1 can't be found, as it should be, no other errors.
Installed the FTDI drivers for the USB-Serial converter.
Rebooted the laptop.
Set the port speed to 115200.
Started TS and loaded my project. (Laptop not connected to MS2)
Closed TS.
Now the debug log shows the same error as in my first post??

Re: Tunerstudio Losing connection and unable to reconnect
Did some more tests.
It's not a faulty msq/project, because when a run the default MS2extra project the same errors are in the debug log.
Then I borrowed another USB-RS232 converter.
And again when loading the default MS2extra project the same errors appear in the debug log.
So it has to be either a problem with my laptop or TS.
Going to uninstall/reinstall TS next.

Re: Tunerstudio Losing connection and unable to reconnect
Yes, that error would be the same. All it is really saying is that TS sent a request and nothing responded within the timeout period.
I'm not clear on this... Are you able to talk to the box, then it looses connection or is it not talking at all.
Again, this does not look like a TS issue, but an electrical/hardware issue.

Re: Tunerstudio Losing connection and unable to reconnect
Sorry for not being clear. This is without even attaching a serial cable to the laptop, let alone MS2.I'm not clear on this... Are you able to talk to the box, then it looses connection or is it not talking at all.
I tried to replicate the problem on my PC, but that log doesn't show any errors.
When I do run TS op my laptop, open the project and connect the MS2, TS says it has connected, but when I close TS and check the log, the error is in the log.
I can make changes in the table and burn them, and they are preserved.
Re: Tunerstudio Losing connection and unable to reconnect
Hi Phil,
I've found the problem and it is entirely my fault.
My laptop is a HP NC8430. To make a battery last longer and make it running a bit cooler I had installed the RightMark CPU Clock utility.
This lowers the processor states and CPU voltages.
I have had this program installed for almost 2 years and never had an issue.
Till now that is, because when I don't run the cpu utility TS doesn't show any issues in the log.
When I turn it back on the errors come right back.
Glad I´ve finally found the problem.
Phill, sorry for thinking this was a TunerStudio problem and taking up you valuable time with this stupid mistake.
And thanks for your last post about it being an electrical problem, that's what made me think about the CPU utility.
