Re: Introducing Shadow Dash MS
Do you have to re-pair regularly too?
That confuses me, a bluetooth adapter should not need to be paired on every use.

Not sure if this has already been asked, apologies if it has, but is their a minimum spec or recommended spec for running Shadow Dash MS on a tablet? I'm looking to get one and just want to be sure I'm getting something good enough.
Cheers.

There are variables there... So it is hard to set a dead minimum.. What I can tell you for sure:robd wrote:Not sure if this has already been asked, apologies if it has, but is their a minimum spec or recommended spec for running Shadow Dash MS on a tablet? - Must have Android 2.2 or higher
- Bluetooth is required
- GPS is very nice to have, but if you don't have it an external GPS is way better anyway and it will still work without any GPS data.
- Accelerometer is again something you really want to have, but in just about everything anyway.
- Gyroscope and Magnetometer are used if available, so again nice to have.
For processor, it should run fine on a 600 MHz single core, but I recommend 2 cores. I have seen some gauge pauses when garbage collection happens on single core processors.

Re: Introducing Shadow Dash MS
what's the easiest way to make tuning changes with this bluetooth adapter plugged in? Right now my laptop with TS won't find my MS3 with the BT plugged in.

Unlike Android, Windows is sometimes a PITA with Bluetooth. The response is very slow and sometimes detect and test do not work.Bossman wrote:what's the easiest way to make tuning changes with this bluetooth adapter plugged in? Right now my laptop with TS won't find my MS3 with the BT plugged in.
It is best in windows to see what com port it is on, make sure that is an Outgoing Port (Incoming ports do not work and cause trouble), then set it to that port and click Accept in TunerStudio. If you have it set to the port that it is really on, it should connect.

Re: Introducing Shadow Dash MS
I have never had to resetup my BT adapter once paired.
SL/SD just asks which (previously paired) BT target to connect to.
Some may see this issue with some troublesome serial adapters, iogear GBS301 immediately comes to mind...
Mine pairs/works perfectly under Linux, Linux/Android or Win XP with TunerStudio.
(Although it only autoreconnects under Linux//Android, go figure)
I have been having lockup issues with SD, but it's probably my craptastic old HeroC phone overheating due to any graphics load.
SL still works fine for grabbing logs.
Trying to score a better phone or tablet cheap/free.

Re: Introducing Shadow Dash MS
Does lowering the "Maximum Display Refresh rate" help? Some android devices will let themselves go as fat as they can, and it is often 60 frames a second. Which is sort of pointless when the data is coming back at 20/s. I have one phone that is happier to run at 10 or 15 when running for long term. Otherwise it can drain the battery while plugged in! It does that with Google Navigator too. That is why I put a throttle in there.I have been having lockup issues with SD, but it's probably my craptastic old HeroC phone overheating due to any graphics load.

I have it cranked down slow as far as it can go.LT401Vette wrote:Does lowering the "Maximum Display Refresh rate" help? The phone gets warm.
On a cool night a couple weeks ago it worked great...
I'm considering it a hardware issue.

Re: Introducing Shadow Dash MS
Yes, tested 0.99.7 on the Nexus 7 and the line on the left side is gone!BTW Kristof,
0.99.7 should get rid of that piece of the previous dash on the left too.
Thanks!

Re: Introducing Shadow Dash MS
I have found another issue:
When i start the app, sometimes it connects and i can see the status "connected" and the data reads about 10 to 12 reads per second, but the gauges doesn´t moves. If i flip the phone from vertical to horizontal position or i change the dashboard to another one (going from the 1st to the 2nd, or similar), all the gauges starts to work normally.
It doesnt happens all the time, only in a few conditions.
I will keep testing it. It works really fine. Now i have removed my dashboard to make some modifications on it, so now i use the phone all the time.

Re: Introducing Shadow Dash MS
Phil,
Have you thought about how 2 tablets could be used to have a HUD and a dash (or other multi panel setups)? They obviously can't both communicate over Bluetooth with the MS. Could they share the data over WiFi?
By the way, I'm not even close to trying this but was just wondering about this possibility.

Yep, that is in the plan.
A cheap wifi switch in the car, one master shadowdash and 1-n slaves.

Re: Introducing Shadow Dash MS
Sounds good. I thought you could use ad-hoc WiFi connections but I just did a quick search and it seems that's not trivial to do on most Android devices.

Re: Introducing Shadow Dash MS
I'm not sure what is up with that. Even apple lets peer to peer work, but android no. The wireless phone conpanies wanting to sell wifi access point perhaps?
You can do adhoc too, but again it takes rooting the device. One way or another from an appkication perspective it is already in the framework
