Re: Shadow Dash open when charging
Hi Phil,
any good progress in testing?
Meanwhile I purchased this: http://www.microchip.com/Developmenttoo ... NO=TKET001
I hope it will solve all USB communication issues and together with the power moding implementation SD will be a reliable dash.
Thanks,
Zoltan

I have it half done, but then got pulled into working on something else, so haven't finished it up yet
Soon.

Re: Shadow Dash open when charging
Hi Phil,
my engine is up and running again, I would finish the dashboard install as well where your app is the key player:)
Unfortunately with the current features the tab I am using discharge battery during 2 nights, so permanent install is not possible.
Can you help with the power moding feature and implement ignition control via charging if possible?
I know I am the only one who currently want this feature but without this the my dashboard is not functioning as it should be.
Last year you mentioned it is half done, do you see any chance to implement the missing part and release sometime?
I am happy to help in any level of testing.
Thanks,
Zoltan

Re: Shadow Dash open when charging
I'm sorry... I have been coding 10-12 hours solid as of late, but unfortunately it is not on Shadow Dash and I really need to get the current stuff done. So that has gotten in the way of several things like this.
I swear I will be getting to it shortly. I have scrapped the stock dash in my car too and am swapping over to display panels. So I have lots of reason I need it all to work seemlessly.

Hi Phil,
it is good that you need to have your dashboard working as well so we can have something hopefully soon.
Once you start program SD please also take a look into economy related data, as far as I remember it is still broken, and also the trip meter related things need some coding.
Looking forward to the new features!

Re: Shadow Dash open when charging
Finally added the option. Sorry for the delay.
Give it a shot. 1.30 has an option in Preferences. When on, if power is turned off, it will disconnect from the MS and let the device fall to sleep. Then when charging, it will turn back on and reconnect.

Re: Shadow Dash open when charging
Phil
Does it have to be connected to MS for this to work?
Tried it on my Nexus 7 running the latest Lollipop and no go.
I get the charging and discharging message at the bottom of the screen, but it doesn't go to sleep when I remove the charger or wake from sleep when I plug the charger in.
Thought it might be because I was using a custom kernel(Franco kernel), but tried with a stock kernel and same result.
I recall that you have a Nexus 7. Does it work on yours?
Note, I was not connected to a MS when I tried this.

Re: Shadow Dash open when charging
Hi Phil,
I tried the new version, here are my findings:
1.Prevent sleep need to be unchecked, otherwise not works.
2. While SD running offline, it can override the sleep mode so screen will not turn off after screen timeout but cannot override the screen low dim. By screen low dim I mean that your screen goes to like 25% backlight but not off if there is no activity. In case there is a connection to MS3 this not happen.
But when in offline mode - no MS3 - I do the following:
- go to settings, set prevent sleep mode
- go back to main screen - sleep and dim to 25% not happen while SD running
- go to settings, unset prevent sleep mode
- exit SD, flush memory
- restart SD
- dim to 25 % not happen...
I do not know what does the magic here but interesting. It is OK until some SD restart.
2. When MS3 connected to the Tablet (Samsung Galaxy tab7 Android: 4.2.2) even if MS3 is offline, the SD app start automatically, and SD saying connected to FTDIxxx, but cannot make connection. Due to some changes SD start to resize the screen (upper bar disappear) but since there is no connection possible, it say NOT connected, and screen goes back to the type where upper bar is visible.
However the new power moding is there SD will not go to sleep, I think because it try to connect to FTDIxx. Screen will display not connected and against that there si no charge, stay on.
3. In case I turn ignition on, MS3 go online, SD recognize the charge and I think start to reconnect, connection makes here like 5 - 20sec. Also the screen try to resize but it is not smooth (jumping between sizes - I plan to do some front face for the digital gauges, in this case the graphics will move behind the holes).
4. One more trial: Ignition off, no charge, SD connected to active MS3, dash is running. Charger became connected, SD recognize the charge, drop connection for 3 - 7 sec, change screen size, re initialize connection, run again.
I attached the appdebug, may it help. I think there is still an issue with the connection trials which override sleep, and I liked better the old style no upper bar mode - screen was more stable for the eyes. As discussed earlier, in case the new mode is on, can we say that conenction is possible only when charging is ON? This can make a clean connection all the time.
Thanks,
Zoltan

I hope I could help to improve the feature and based on my findings Phil can get closer to the final solution and shadowdash will behave as the ignition key positions - charge status - commands.

Having issues here as well.
I load shadowdash (make sure it's wiped out of memory).
Have "keep awake" unchecked.
Have "disconnect when not charging" checked.
Every 30 seconds the "discharging" text flashes and phone won't enter sleep. GPS is also turned on.
GPS also seems bugged, it isn't turning on (it will very rarely)l. I'm going to try and roll back to the last version for now. This issue is independent on above check boxes. *edit* crap...looks like I can't roll back with google play...can't find older versions on efianalytics either.

Re: Shadow Dash open when charging
In this release I replaced the old menu with the action bar as many new devices don't show the old style menu, especially samsung. I still want it to show the dash full screen, so that is why it plays that hide the menu game. I don't like it either, it is clunky. I need to come up with a refinement.
I have not tried the let sleep mode with the external GPS, I will need to do some more testing there.
One thing I have found here is there are quite a few use cases and conflicting desired responses. I think it needs more use to come up with the best behaviors.

Re: Shadow Dash open when charging
Hi Phil..
First Off I Have to Say ... AWESOME WORK!!.. Thank you..
Been playing around with my tablet (WM8850-mid - Android 4.0.3) running 1.3.0 Shadow dash
Finally after having to root the thing I got Shadow dash Sorted.. for the most part.
I have been having the same Issues as the guys above..
1.)Disconnect to Sleep... (Yes Stay awake is off & my sleep time is 15sec.) It disconnects , but does not go to sleep... Unless I remove the OTG cable..?
When i wake up again.. (with otg back in of course..) [ For some reason it does not wake straight to the app, I have to press the power button to wake-up] it sees the FTDI cable but does not reconnect to the ecu (MS1 running Extra-HR11D) (although it connects at 115200 through the FTDI cable with d2xx). Say's it's offline..
No matter what, I have to exit Shadow Dash and restart the app. Disconnect and reconnect in the software does not fix. I have to restart the app.
If i pull the otg cable to drop comms, it disconnects.... reconnect otg.. it see's the ftdi d2xx but does not reconnect to the ecu "offline".. but then after sleep timeout (15sec in my case) it goes to sleep anyway.
2.) I am not to sure of the spec of my tablet, but I find the user interface very sluggish to respond to screen drags and Comms establishment and config opening with the ecu.
Hope this helps out for some cool new prospects. It's an awesome setup that we want to run in our Drag/Street/Show car in the very near future.
Kindest Regards
Gordon.

Re: Shadow Dash open when charging
The sleep and wake are triggered from battery charge states changing from charge to discharge.
So if you are using FTDI, the charge state doesn't change unless the tablet you are using has a separate charge cable and doesn't plug through the USB.
Do you have separate charging?
Are you hoping for it to fall to sleep when the ECU gets powered off?
Then the trouble powering back on is that there would be no trigger to tell SD to wake up as it never lost the FTDI chip unless unplug and plug it back in.

Tablet power supply Setup to switch off when key off in the car (therefore ECU off)...
Mmmmm?.. Any Suggestions?...

But I do notice the comment of Battery discharging when I unplug the separate charger... but still doesn't sleep.. until I unplug the OTG or FTDI cable.
