Unable to change or delete Tuning Quick View

Post by jsiedlicki »

64 bit MLVHD 4.5.05 on Linux Mint 21.2

I have a quick view tab named "Tuning" as the second tab next to the Default tab from the left. If I make changes to the fields it asks to save the changes upon closing but the changes are not saved. I then tried to delete the Tuning tab and the usual confirmation dialog pops up and I answer Yes to delete it but does not delete. Other tabs work correctly.

What am I missing?

The Tuning tab is there by default and it's default contents are defined in the .properties file.

So, when you right click it doesn't offer to delete, instead it offers to "Restore Default Fields"

Yes, the right mouse click on the tab only offers "Restore Default Fields" but the Quick View button says it can be deleted, see pic.
So why can't I change and save the fields?

Interesting point.. It wasn't removed from the old menu :-)

I thought that might be the case, but what about not being able to save changes to the fields in the Tuning tab?

BTW: changes to the Default tab are saved even though I do not get a message when closing MLVHD about the changes made in the fields, plus there is no red alert icon shown in the tab to indicate a change has been made.

That I am not seeing. If I change it, the changes seem to stick fine.

If I want to reinstall fresh, in addition to the application directory, which of these files should I delete from the configuration directory?

It's usually pointless to remove and replace the install folder..

The files to remove are:
hlv.properties
hlv.properties.bak
and the whole MegaLogViewerHD folder.

.hlvreg will remove the registration.

That didn't work either. It still will not save changes to the Tuning tab.

I'll try it on a linux PC.. But, it doesn't seem like something that would be OS related.

No changes are saving or some specific change?

For example, to test on the top graph I changed MAP to Load, then restarted and loaded a log. Load was displayed when the log was loaded.

Then changed Load to blank, restarted, blank remained.

I just tried it on a Windows 10 virtual machine running on my Linux machine with a fresh install of MLVHD and the changes to the Tuning tab are also not being saved.

I think I found a repeatable pattern. It seems that if you clear out all the fields in a particular graph, so that it is removed from the histogram, it does not save correctly.

Test:
Click on Tuning tab
Click on Quick Views
Click Clear current Selection
Add RPM to Graph1

Close and save changes

The defaults will come back upon reopening the app. Happens the same on Linux and Windows

I am able to get this behavior on both Windows and Linux. Can you duplicate this?

Yes. If all are cleared, it thinks there is nothing there and goes back to the default.

Ok, but when I do select something like RPM as I mentioned, it still resets back to the default.
