How to identify what Megasquirt version you have
First, take a look at the Product Range page that covers the main categories of products and we won’t repeat that here. On this page we’ll help identify products within the traditional Megasquirt range and some obsolete products.
For traditional products, there are two main factors:
- Processor type (Megasquirt-1, Megasquirt-2, Megasquirt-3)
- Circuit board version (V2.2, V3.0, V3.57)
If you are already have your tuning computer connected to your Megasquirt, you will be able to find out some details just by looking at the screen.
From the above image you can see that the author was using:
– Tuning software = TunerStudioMS version 2.5.05
– Firmware = MS2/Extra release 3.3.1
Megasquirt-1 (obsolete)
From the outside this could be a Megasquirt-1 or a Megasquirt-2. Remove the upper two screws at each end of the case and remove the upper part of the case. Inside you will see a circuit board with either a big black chip or a plugin card.
Big black chip = Megasquirt-1.
The processor for Megasquirt is no longer manufactured.

Looks Different?
If you have a so-called Megasquirt that doesn’t match anything on this page or the Product Range page or the circuit board is a different colour, it is almost certainly an illegal counterfeit.
